Historical References

The village has been referenced in historical documents under various names. In 1577, Francesco Barozzi mentioned it as Chitaridha in the Malevizi province. The Venetian census of 1583 by Castrofilakas refers to it as Chitharida with 69 inhabitants. Later, in 1630, Francesco Basilicata also mentioned it as Chitaridha. During the Ottoman period, the 1671 census recorded it as Ketaride with 12 charatsia (tax units). The 1834 census, conducted by the Egyptians and preserved by Robert Pashley, lists it as Kitharida with 15 families, all Christian. The village faced a significant setback in 1856 when it was destroyed by an earthquake.
